welcome to sabr-topia

I used to be a huge fan of social media as a way to share things with the world. Details on what I am doing and what I am thinking. In the past several years though, I have distanced myself from much of social media because of the heavy noise factor and in part due to a general dislike of Facebook (the main option for me after the collapse of Google+).

I recently moved to a new (to me) house and have started to think again about where to share information. I have been thinking more about forming a new gaming community and really want to spend more time learning to use my phone to capture amazing photos. Facebook was an option, but try as I might Facebook it is not for me. What to do…

my new home

I have maintained my hosting through Dreamhost for many, many years but I have not used it much recently other than as a domain registrar and e-mail forwarding device. I like the idea of controlling my own content, sharing my own message in my own way and decided perhaps it was time to do just that.

So what is the deal with all this sabr nonsense? Everyone needs a cool gamer tag, right? I used to use seanabrady for everything because it was easy and I wanted to control that user name. A few years back I started using the gamer tag Kobayashim (even though I am not a Star Trek fan) but it was sort of random and didn’t seem to fit. SaBR is certainly more fitting as a gaming appropriate abbreviation for my name Sean anthony BRady. It is of course taken on most games already but in general, I like it. My new attempt at social then is based around sabr and what I have to say about things. sabr’s slashes sounds pretty cool to a 48-year-old gamer geek.

This is a place for me to write and that is useful, and I think a little therapeutic for me, but it isn’t super social. I still want a place to “hang out”, chat and discuss things with friends and others without giving up too much control of the message and format. I have decided to create a new server on Discord for friends, family, and fellow geeks and gamers to join me for discussions and more. I will link everyone to the new server when it is ready to go. I am looking to add new YouTube and photo content as well. All the links will be available here when they are ready to go. Lastly, I am working on a Mixer channel for streaming. It’s a little less crowded that Twitch and with the recent changes to Windows super simple to stream to without managing OBS or other tools.
